Which image format should you choose?

WebP: Often a good choice for smaller website images. JPEG: Useful for photographs and broad compatibility. PNG: Useful for lossless output and transparency. AVIF: A modern image format that can produce compact files, depending on browser support. HEIC/HEIF: Common photo formats on Apple devices; supported files are converted before compression.

Does image compression reduce quality?

The result depends on the output format, image content and selected quality. Lower quality settings can produce smaller JPEG and WebP files, but may introduce visible compression artefacts. PNG output is lossless, so its file size may not decrease as much as a lossy format. Resizing an image can also reduce its file size by reducing its pixel dimensions.

Are my images uploaded to a server?
